Liz Green - High Sheriff of Hertfordshire 2023/24
High Sheriff of Hertfordshire - Liz Green
My Story
A High Sheriff is appointed by His Majesty The King for one year. The Office of High Sheriff is over 1,000 years old and the key role is to support those involved in the administration of justice and in the voluntary sector.
Liz Green is serving as High Sheriff of Hertfordshire in 2023/24. During her year in office Liz's theme is ‘Reading, Writing and Rehabilitation’.
Research has shown that over 60% of those in prison struggle to read, and in the Hertfordshire community the figure varies from 22% to 26% across the county. In 2021/2022 around a third of Reception children did not meet the expected level of development for communication and literacy skills, and one in five adults in Hertfordshire had a low level of essential skills.
Liz hopes to engage with the County Council, the police, probation service and charities to do what she can to improve literacy levels across Hertfordshire, and hopes to engage with business to help ex-offenders returning to the workplace.
Liz will work closely with Hertfordshire Community Foundation who manage the High Sheriff's Fund. Each year the fund provides support to community and voluntary groups in Hertfordshire.
All funds raised during her year in office will go towards local organisations working to support those in need. Your donation will make a huge difference to our communities and in making Hertfordshire a better place to live for everyone. Thank you.
